Who We Are

 

Rick Smith is the founder and chief instructor of Applied Freedom Academy. He is an NRA Certified Training Counselor, Firearms Instructor, Refuse to Be a Victim Regional Counselor & Instructor, and Chief Range Safety Officer. He has more than 15 years of specialized training in pistol, rifle, and shotgun. He is credentialed to train and certify firearms instructors, range safety officers, and Refuse to Be a Victim instructors.

Rick received his firearm and personal safety training from the nation's most renowned law enforcement and military instructors with the Chicago Police and Sheriff S.W.A.T. Departments, the FBI, a former Navy Seal Team Leader, and the US State Department's Anti-Terrorism Assistance Program. He is a knowledgeable and accomplished instructor who specializes in preparing the armed citizen and professionals for real world threats.

 

Rick integrates his broad knowledge and experience into his training to help others achieve their personal best. He provides personal safety training and consultation for individuals, businesses, civic organizations, and churches. He enjoys working with youth and volunteers as a safety officer for the Scholastic Action Shooting Program's State, Regional, and National Competitions. 

 

Rick is approachable whether in the classroom, on the range, or relaxing in a social atmosphere. He is available to answer your questions and dedicated to ensuring that you enjoy your training. He strives to make your training experience exceed your expectations and that you leave class feeling more accomplished and confident than before arriving.
