Training for the Real World…Beyond the Gun Range

Updated: Feb 21

Are you ready to face a harsh reality? Live fire practice at a public range does not prepare you for real life threats. The average person who does not confront violence on a daily basis may have difficulty accepting this fact.

People are correctly advised when purchasing a handgun to get training from a professional and then practice shooting regularly at their local gun range. Regular target practice at a gun range is essential for developing basic shooting skills.

Advanced training will take you to the next level of skill development. Strategic and tactical training is vital for developing the mental attitude and gross motor skills required for personal defense situations.

However, the inevitable result of regular range practice over time may surprise you. Shooting at static and moving targets around obstacles is predictable. Staged drills lack the important element of surprise. You will unwittingly develop habits that could get you killed or sent to prison when faced with real life threats.

Real life threats require a person to make crucial decisions under stress in fluid circumstances. A situation can change rapidly, unpredictably, and usually for the worst. You must develop the ability for responding in volatile situations.

Your mind will default to your training when under the stress of a threatening situation. Inadequate training can have serious and unintended consequences when faced with the harsh realities encountered in the real world.

Shooting ranges are training restrictive for safety reasons. It is impossible to stage scenarios with the bad guys shooting back at you. One-way live fire prevents you from developing critical lifesaving habits and skills.

The armed citizen must train for reality beyond the gun range. You must prepare for the unexpected in real life settings. You need to train using both your mind and your firearm.

TRAINING METHODS

Applied Freedom Academy has designed two simulated training classes where people can safely train to meet actual threats. These time-proven methods are preferred by law enforcement, military, first responders and church security teams.

  1. SIMUATOR TRAINING

Simulation videos depict real people acting as threats, victims, and bystanders. You are presented with scenarios that require immediate distinctive decisions. You must determine whether to draw and fire or take alternative courses of action.

2. CQB TRAINING

Several life-sized reactive targets are used for tactical entry and dynamic room clearing as well as active shooter simulated training. This system is versatile enough to be used for unlimited scenario setup at any location. Several targets may be strategically placed throughout a room or building to simulate shoot/no-shoot scenarios.

Recoil enabled firearms licensed by GLOCK are used to provide a safe training environment with the realistic look, weight, feel and function of a real gun. It is a safe, realistic, and effective way to train for the real world.

These courses are designed to transform a person’s natural instincts into deliberate actions when split-second decisions count. Participants will develop a natural ability (automaticity) that increases the chance of survival when under stress.

Natural instincts are unconscious responses that prompt a fight-or-flight reaction to a perceived threat. Instincts serve a person’s life and well being but do not always result in the most effective or favorable outcome.

Automaticity, like instincts, prompts immediate responses but differs by instilling deliberate adaptability to changing situations. It is a learned readiness to respond quickly and composedly in rapidly evolving circumstances.

Performance evaluations are provided immediately after each session to correct mistakes at the moment of critical learning. This provides the maximum benefit for skill development.

Our simulated training courses utilize intuitive based training to help a person:

• Prepare for the unexpected

• Function under stress

• Make split second decisions

• Know when and how to evade

• Identify shoot/no shoot situations

• Avoid five common lethal mistakes

All training equipment is provided. No personal equipment is permitted in this class for everyone’s safety.

LIVE AMMUNITION & PERSONAL FIREARMS ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THE CLASSROOM OR TRAINING AREA.
